How did you first discover Star Wars?
Not so long ago in a galaxy not so far away, the experience was nigh universal: Your parents took you to the movies and you settled into your seat, crunching on a fistful of popcorn, blissfully unaware that the next two hours would fundamentally change your life forever. Now, however, the galaxy is expanding. Ask someone where they were when they first realize they couldn’t live without Star Wars: Many will tell you about standing in line in 1977. But others might have had their first launch to lightspeed into a galaxy far, far away while playing a video game. Others may have discovered it by tuning in every week to see the new challenges their heroes faced on their TV screens.
Over at Lucasfilm, there’s a team of Star Wars storytellers hoping that their new animated television series – Star Wars Resistance – will launch the next generation’s Star Wars obsession. Star Wars Resistance follows the adventures of Kazuda “Kaz” Xiono, a young pilot recruited by Poe Dameron and employed by none other than General Leia Organa herself to gather intelligence for the budding Resistance.
“If I had to describe Star Wars Resistance in one word, I would have to say ‘entertaining,'” explains Justin Ridge, the executive producer and supervising director for Star Wars Resistance and former director on Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. “It’s fun, lighthearted, and action-packed. Plus, the series takes place six months before The Force Awakens, so we have a lot of connective tissue to the movie which is great.”
Will Star Wars Resistance be the the first lightspeed jump into the world of Star Wars for the young generation? It is a big galaxy, after all. And it is an amazing time to be a Star Wars fan.
